Aims and Objectives

The primary aim shall be to achieve the pleasure of Allah (SUBH), this being done by aspiring to the following objectives:

• (a) Develop and maintain a strong Islamic character of members of the Muslim Community at UCT
• (b) Develop and maintain a strong, unified Islamic organisation at UCT.
• (c) Assist Muslims at UCT to carry out our Islamic obligations in totality.
• (d) Spreading the word of Allah at UCT with wisdom and patience.
• (e) Actively participate in, and impact on political and social issues at UCT, from an Islamic perspective.
• (f) Active involvement in off-campus issues and encouraging student participation in community development.
• (g) Striving for unity with other Islamic youth and student organisation while keeping our primary aim in sight.

The Islamic Society of the University of Cape Town was established in order to fulfil the specific needs of Muslims on campus.

Our mission is to provide sufficient and necessary services to Muslims Students at this institution.

In doing the above, we aim to:

• Create an awareness of Islam and promote it at the highest level.
• Create an environment in which Muslims can practice their belief with ease.
• Constructively co-operate with students of all religious denominations, thereby informing of Islam and inviting them to Islam.

Through our publications, we aim to:

• To inform and provide an analysis for students concerning Islam, Islamic practices, Sunnah (Prophetic Traditions), global news and events.
• To broaden the minds of the readers, informing them of issues and viewpoints that are not covered by mainstream publishers and media.
  
  Very importantly, the Islamic Society also sees itself committed in introducing the true picture of Islam to both muslims and non-muslims on campus.
